order first then get seated. The seating situation can get kind of chaotic with kids in the bunch. We were waiting right before the ramp and it took maybe about 30 minutes before we ordered. staff were patient and helpful We enjoyed the matcha latte, ube pancakes (fluffy), big wave burrito (fresh fillings!), and the breakfast bowl (spicy kick, yum). Would return in the future!

A newer brunch spot next to the cottage and sugar and scribe. This spot is very cute and has beach cottage vibes. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The staff are very friendly. We came on a Monday morning and it was pretty empty. Strawberry matcha (4.5/5): the strawberry flavor is on the lighter side but this was still a delicious drink. Lox toast (4.5/5): this isn't the most unique breakfast item but it is well done. The bread they use is delicious and not too crunchy which is one of my pet peeves about toasts. Overall, this is a solid edition to the La Jolla brunch scene. Their menu is more trendy and modern compared to some of the other brunch spots nearby.

We stopped by this place for a quick breakfast. This place has a very casual, coastal charm where customers can just walk in and place their orders before finding themselves their own seat. The area can get a little cramped, making it harder for larger parties, but I found it to be a wonderful stop for a smaller party of 2-3. They offered a seasonal strawberry matcha, which I really enjoyed! We also ordered their ube pancakes and big wave breakfast burrito, which was the perfect amount to share. All in all, I really enjoyed this place and would love to return to try their other menu items.

I've been craving Ube Pancakes for brunch, so for my birthday celebration, my husband took me to The Blue Whale in La Jolla. Let me just say, this place was amazing and far exceeded my expectations! The restaurant has a charming coastal vibe--quaint, cozy, and homey inside, with a great option for outdoor seating too. It's the perfect setting for a relaxing brunch. We ordered a variety of dishes to share: the Ube Pancakes (so delicious), an acai bowl (requested without hemp seeds), avocado toast, the Blue Whale Brekky, and a matcha latte for me. Everything was so good, but the Ube Pancakes were by far my favorite--they were fluffy, flavorful, and just perfect. This birthday brunch was exactly what I hoped for, and The Blue Whale has officially become one of my favorite brunch spots. I can't wait to come back. The food, the atmosphere, and the overall experience were all just incredible.

Went for brunch and it was amazing!! The breakfast burrito was the best one I've ever had. It had a crispy hash brown inside, soo much avocado, and came with a fresh salsa on the side that made it even better. I also got an iced gingerbread latte with oat milk and loved it as well. We sat outside and the ambiance is very cute.

What a cute place for breakfast. Makes me feel like I'm on vacation. The service was amazing. The girl at the counter was super sweet. The food was surprisingly tasty and quick. We shared the Ube pancakes and it was super tasty and fluffy. We also had the blue whale brekky which was really good. I really enjoyed the greens they made it paired well the breakfast. Come early as this place gets packed. Thank you Blue Whale for a testy first time. I can't wait to come back and try something else on the menu.
